Instructional DesignInstructional design is the creation of instructional materials, such as manuals, handouts and multimedia. It aims to ensure that individuals or groups receive information in a form that is effective and meaningful to them, helping them better understand the topics and concepts being taught.
I work with clients to design, implement and evaluate instructional materials related to topics, concepts and tools in conservation planning. Below are some examples of instructional materials I have worked on. |
Training videos on SCP & ELSA
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) works with partners to use spatial data to map ‘essential life support areas’ (ELSAs). ELSAs are areas that together conserve critical biodiversity and provide humans with essential ecosystem services, such as carbon storage, food, fresh water, water filtration, and disaster risk reduction.
To support the UNOPS in building national capacity for mapping ELSAs, I have partnered with Pacific Marine Analysis and Research Association (PacMARA) to develop high-level training videos on Systematic Conservation Planning (SCP), the ELSA process, and the ELSA webtool.

Marxan & Marxan with Zones user manuals
The Marxan software and its extension, Marxan with Zones, are decision-support tools designed to assist conservation practitioners in the planning and design of protected area networks.
In 2020, I collaborated with PacMARA and the Nature Conservancy to update and create new content for the Marxan and Marxan with Zones user manuals.
These manuals are available for download at:
