Research Diving Training

Scientific research diving utilizes scuba or other diving equipment to conduct underwater research. Common activities include visual measurements and counts of living organisms, collection of biological or physical samples,  underwater surveys, photography, and placement of scientific equipment.
As an experienced research diver and trainer, I have participated in over 500 research dives, led over 250 underwater surveys, and trained more than 200 students in various marine research sampling methods. Along with tailored dive training, I offer PADI scuba diving courses and PADI speciality courses.

Reef Check EcoDiver Training
Reef Check is an international non-profit organization dedicated to conserving coral reefs. In 1997, they conducted the first-ever global survey on reef health that provided scientific confirmation that coral reefs were in crisis due to over-fishing, illegal fishing, and pollution. Reef Check’s fast-growing network now has volunteer teams in more than 90 countries and territories and plays a major role in efforts to preserve, monitor, and sustain reef ecosystems.

As a Reef Check EcoDiver program trainer, I teach divers how to conduct the Reef Check survey methodology - a globally standardized scientific methodology for collecting data to monitor the health status of coral reefs. Divers are also taught how to identify and survey key indicator fish, invertebrates, and substrates selected for global monitoring and conservation of coral reefs. Once certified as a Reef Check EcoDivers, divers can join Reef Check monitoring teams and assist in under water surveys.
